About SavePacificView.org

SPV-FlyersSavePacificView.org is a grassroots group of concerned north coastal residents who are working to keep the historical bluffside Pacific View school site in the public domain for present and future generations to enjoy.

Here's the text exchange that started the effort to save Pacific View. Leucadia resident Scott Chatfield texted his friend and Encinitas City Council Member Tony Kranz on a Saturday, they had coffee at the late, great E Street Cafe at 10 a.m. on Monday, and they were off!

Here’s the text exchange that started the effort to save Pacific View. Leucadia resident Scott Chatfield texted his friend and Encinitas City Council Member Tony Kranz on a Saturday, they had coffee at the late, great E Street Cafe at 10 a.m. on Monday, and they were off!

Founded in February, 2014, by longtime Leucadia resident Scott Chatfield, the SavePacificView.org website served as a rallying point for residents to send emails to elected officials, asking them to reach a compromise before the school district sold the land to developers. (Chatfield successfully employed this strategy in 2008 to help save our 760 area code.)

At the last minute, the city offered to purchase the property for $10 million and the district agreed. A formal purchase agreement has been signed, and the sale is currently moving through elective and administrative channels with an eye toward closing by the end of 2014.

Currently, SavePacificView.org hopes to accomplish two things:

  1. To continue advocating for the successful transfer of the property by monitoring and reporting on the sale developments.
  2. To serve as a catalyst where community members can discuss their dreams and ideas for the future of the Pacific View site.
